![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The football stadium at Decatur Central High School is named in honor of former Decatur Central coach Devere Fair. Fair became an Indiana high school athletics legend, primarily because of his 28 years at Decatur Central and his dedication to Hoosier high school sports and education in general. His three undefeated seasons and his teams' conference titles are only a few of Fair's athletics accomplishments. Before his favorite coaching hat and shoes were retired and encased in a plastic display, the man known almost as much for phrases used to motivate players, as his no-nonsense coaching style, had led Wabash to its firt conference football title in years and he put DC football on the map across the state. Fair is a member of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame and the state's high school wrestling Hall of Fame. He also was known throughout Hoosier sports circles for his enthusiasm over hosting state wrestling events ad DC facilities. Off the field, Fair - who earned his degree from Purdue University after his Boilermaker gridiron career - devoted his classroom duties to bringing the world of science to students' lives. During Fair's teaching career, he earned three National Science Scholarships.
